It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the long drive was nearly over, and our anticipation grew as we neared our first glimpse of Dartmouth.

Nothing really prepares you for the moment when planning meets reality. A narrow finger of fog had enveloped the River Dart and a chilling breeze was blowing off the sea.

A warm welcome to everyone to Cruise 2026.

Our initial plans and preparation were mainly focused on wind strength and direction. Questions like, “Can we even sail?” (in light winds) or, “Can we head west?” (against southwesterly winds) had to be answered, meaning studying the forecast for the days ahead became an obsession. Yet, we hadn’t even considered factoring in fog—specifically, advection fog. (Link in new page)

Regardless, we continued to get everything unpacked and settled before walking to the Steam Packet for a delicious meal.

And so it begins.

This blog is written in real time to give you a flavour of life at sea on the yacht Liquid Asset.

Once upon a time, cameras were hardwired to iPads and we scouted for WiFi patches just to upload content. Today, a mobile phone does it all: photos, recordings, videos, and text. Soon, AI will reduce that time and effort even further. Just remember: WiFi can still be scarce out at sea or in secluded anchorages.

Each daily page will follow a set pattern: “Plan vs. Reality” overviews, plus a special column for our younger readers who are growing up so fast.

And a page menu for navigation.

Enjoy!
